Imagining America creates democratic spaces to foster and advance publicly engaged scholarship that draws on arts, humanities, and design. We catalyze change in campus practices, structures, and policies that enables artists and scholars to thrive and contribute to community action and revitalization.
Led by faculty director Erica Kohl-Arenas and managing director Mina Matlon – who met as members of the 2016 POF Forum – IA is currently based at University comprised of more than 100 college and university members and community partners. Annual programming includes convening a national conference and cultural organizing institutes, and collaborative research and action projects. IA contributes resources to an expanding membership, offers opportunities undergraduate and graduate student leaders, and provides significant leadership to the field of engaged scholarship in higher education. In the local, national, and international initiatives of the Economic Empowerment and Global Learning Project, teams of students and faculty from a spectrum of disciplines across Lafayette College’s four academic divisions are collaborating with communities to advance residents’ ambitions and build human capital.
EEGLP takes a multidisciplinary approach toward its community redevelopment initiatives. Teams of students and faculty from every academic division work hand in hand with residents to tackle real-world economic issues locally, nationally, and internationally.
